Lighthouses

The lighthouse is a compact, urban apartment of 50 m2 that can be placed on top of parkings, warehouses, schools or other houses. It's a minitower existing out of 3 stacked prefabricated modules, with a maximum height of 9 m. The first module has an open construction to provide a large open roof terrace of 15 m2 underneath the apartment, next to the entrance. The first 4 lighthouses have been realized in the centre of Groningen, on top of a bakery near Central Station. The municipality supported the project and provides a perfect solution to a rising need for apartments in congested urban areas. The light weight wooden prefabricated construction allows to be built on top of existing structures; it weights 17.000 kg. Providing a good roof structure by the ‘host’, the house can be put up in only one day. The eventual costs of a Lighthouse depends on the amount ordered, the material costs, costs for the location and installation costs to connect it to sewage and existing structure.
